The tunnel is 4.8kms long and to eliminate risk of fire dry type transformers were used. Each transformer is located in the cross passage tunnels which means space is at a minimum. Each secondary winding feeds 2 identical main switchboards which means there are four times the usual amount of main cables to be connected. Lai switchboards worked closely with the electrical installer and manufactured custom bus bars and connections to accommodate the large groups of cables. This allowed the installer to make the terminations in a tidy and relatively easy way which saved hundreds of expensive hours on site.
