In 2014 Downer engaged Lai Switchboards to provide the Main Switchboards, Generator board, UPS boards, power factor correction and integrated automation system for the new VCCC North project.
Lai Switchboards was able to use multiple factories in different states to meet the tight delivery schedule.
On this type of project the automation system would normally be provided separately and wired on site.
Lai Switchboards provided a system where PLC’s, HMI’s, remote I/O with redundant fibre rings where employed. This enable the integration of the automation directly into the switchboards. The benefits are clear, with full off site commissioning, reduction of site based works, and reduction of on-site integration issues. Lai switchboards are also responsible for integration of this new system into the PLC system of the fully operational existing Royal Melbourne Hospital.
